WoW! 2011 is here and what a way to kick off the year by being featured as the Event Stylist and Coordinator for the cover of Get Married Magazine's Spring Issue! It is was a pleasure being apart of the creative process and working with the great GM team as well as some of the finest professionals in the industry! We simply love the end result... totally "fresh", fun and vibrant! One of our fave elements is showcasing the fab bridal registry selections by Lenox!

Also, this cover is full of firsts- this is the first time since the magazine's inception that a model has been used and also the first time that it will be distributed in Publix locations across the country! Pretty exciting!

Divinely Thankful for a wonderful 2010!

My last post of the year is one that fills me with great joy and one that makes me divinely thankful because of all the blessings that God has bestowed upon us as a company!

Despite, the economic conditions God has strategically placed us in wonderful opportunities both here as well as abroad! We've received exposure both locally and nationally via television (Get Married and 11 Alive News) for our design work as well as planning efforts! We've been fortunate with an Editorial feature in print via Brides Atlanta Magazine!

Our first ever Fresh Bridal Experience, our boutique bridal event and a true labor of love was one we deemed a success! Our vision came to life as brides and their fiances were able to plan their weddings within an intimate setting with some of Atlanta's finest vendors!

We've been fortunate to have met an array of event professionals that have helped to shape our focus going forward with our business and we are incredibly grateful as well as excited!

More importantly we are deeply appreciative to our clients, who have trusted us to help plan their most precious moments of their lives and transform them into joyous memories!

Finally, we are divinely grateful for you....our faithful readers who grace us each day with your presence! We count it a blessings to service you and for that we are divinely thankful!

Divine "I DOs": Steve & Gina

We could not have asked for a more beautiful autumn wedding day then the one we had on 10-10-10 for our wonderfully amazing couple, Gina and Steve! The grounds at Vines Mansion were simply stunning and offered the perfect backdrop for their wedding!

Gina's favorite color is purple ...so, we had burst of purple throughout from her shoes to her lovely bouquet (a DIY creation) and their super tasty and elegant wedding cake created by Sugar Kneads Bakery!

Another great detail that we truly loved were the mix-n-match bridesmaids dresses! Gina wanted all of her bridesmaids in the same color but varying styles that complimented each person's style! Simply loved this idea and everyone looked amazing as you can see!

Overall, it was a fabulous day; great time had by all and we had a blast servicing Gina and Steve! We wish them continued blessings as well as years of happiness, love and laughter!

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk- Atlanta 2010

For the second year in a row, we have participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk here in Atlanta at Atlantic Station! And we are proud to say that for the second year in a row the walk has raised over $1 million dollars (with matching funds) for breast cancer research!

This year my wonderful husband, Daniel joined me! Both of our families and friends have been deeply effected by the disease and its effects! For me, my grandmother, Rosa Lee, Aunt Annie Mae, Aunt Margie and for him, his Aunt Shirley! Our friends, Johanna and Sister Vivian! Just recently Sister Vivian Smith lost her struggle to the disease and passed two weeks before the walk! So, it was extremely important to us, to do what we can to raise funds and awareness!

It was a great turnout again this year! We a beautiful day for a great cause!

This t-shirt summed up the mood for me this year! I don't want anyone to experience what Breast Cancer can do! Finding a cure is a must!

Mocktail of the Month: Pink Margie

This month as you may be aware is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! My second mom and Aunt, Margaret is celebrating 2 wonderful years of conquering the disease! My whole family is extremely excited and truly grateful to God for her amazing progress!

Per her doctor's suggestion, she is to reduce her amount of sugar intake! So, we have come up with a mocktail using Crystal Light Pink Lemonade and Lite Cranberry-Raspberry Juice! Here's the recipe:

Ingredients
1 tub Crystal Light Pink Lemonade Flavor Sugar-Free Drink Mix

10 cups chilled Club Soda

4 cups Lite cranberry-raspberry juice

1/2 cup lime juice

Directions
Put the drink mix in a large pitcher.

Add the Club Soda.

Mix until the drink mix is dissolved.

Add the cranberry-raspberry juice and lime juice.

Mix well.

Chill until ready to serve.

Pour into martini glasses, enjoy!

Love Mexico 2010

Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend an amazing 3 day conference, Love Mexico at the Barcelo Maya Palace in the Riviera Maya! I was able to attend educational sessions facilitated by experts from The Knot, Bridal Guide, Destination Wedding Magazine, Association of Bridal Consultants, Association for Wedding Professionals International as well as Style Network's Wedding Experts, Tracy French and Linnyette Richardson-Hall just to name a few! In addition, I met some of the most amazing suppliers Mexico has to offer to help bring your wedding memories to life!

While there we (Daniel and I) had an exclusive private tour of Xcaret, a Mayan eco-park that offers non-traditional wedding ceremonies and amazing views of the turquoise seas! Incredible is the only word that comes to mind! (Be sure to check out our Facebook album for more photos).

Love Mexico revealed many breathtaking in-country destinations to consider from the west coast, Los Cabos to quaint colonial cities like San Miguel De Allende to our host location, Riviera Maya... couples seeking a unique wedding experience with family and friends will be thrilled with the array of choice locations!

Our experience was phenomenal! After personally experiencing this gorgeous country as a honeymooner, I have an even greater appreciation for the beautiful people, wonderful traditions, fabulous food and music! Mexico "IS" an ideal destination for weddings, honeymoons and romance! We can't wait you experience the love of Mexico for your next destination event!

Divinely Beautiful: LaChandra & Chris

Over the Labor Day weekend, we had the opportunity to service beautiful bride, LaChandra and her fiance, Christopher with their wedding party florals! Their ceremony took place in the lush secret garden at The Atrium and the reception followed in the dazzling two-story ballroom! LaChandra was so excited to see her wedding day vision of roses- romantic red and vibrant circus come to life! She is a huge fan of the fleur de lis symbol so we incorporated her beloved symbol not only in her bouquet but in their sand ceremony vessel as well! One of my fave moments was to see her gorgeous smile as I gave her bridal bouquet!

Mocktails of the Month: Garnet Spritzer & The Blue Bulldog

September is here and for sports fans like myself it's.... football season! This weekend my alma mater, South Carolina State University will play Georgia Tech in Atlanta at Bobby Dodd Stadium! Super excited and in honor of the game we will celebrate with garnet and blue (school colors) mocktails! Theme inspired mocktails are a great way to personalize your wedding and in this case inject a bit of festive school spirit and pride!

Here's what you will need:

Garnet Spritzer

4 ounces cranberry-apple juice

2 ounces white grape juice

club soda

Pour juices over ice in large wine glass.

Add a splash of club soda.

Garnish with slice of lime.

The Blue Bulldog

3 oz club soda

1 oz Blueberry Syrup

1 oz Half and Half

1 scoop crushed ice
Yields one 8-ounce serving

Enjoy these great mocktails and Goooooooooooooooooooooooo Bulldogs!

South Asian Bride Magazine Launch Party

South Asian Bride (SAB) Magazine is North America's leading print and digital bridal publication for South Asian American brides! SAB is published 4 times a year and includes leading designers, decorators, photographers as well as beautiful, opulent weddings and much more!

Recently, we had the opportunity to attend the South Asian Bride Magazine Launch Party which was held at the Loews Atlanta Hotel! We enjoyed Indian cuisine provided by Moksha Atlanta, music by DJ Sahil & Neal and Flamenco Guitarist, Rouzbeh as well as meeting some great wedding industry professionals! One of my fave highlights of the evening was meeting, FOX 5 Atlanta's - Suchita Vadlamani!

The evening was filled with fabulous floral designs and a sea of oranges- Weddings In Style and purples- Utopian Events tablescapes that were simply stunning! One of the most intricate designs was this mannequin embellished with rhinestones and covered with a mixture of tropical flowers and roses.

We had a great time and definitely look forward to upcoming issues of SAB Magazine!

My 10th Wedding Anniversary

Today is my 10th Wedding Anniversary with my sweetie, soul mate and best friend, Daniel! I am reminded of my wedding vows I said to him... "To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, 'till death do us part. And hereto I pledge you my faithfulness." Today, I love him now more than the day I met him!

As I think about our wedding day, one of my fave memories was hearing "our song" which is "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green! The song is an oldie...yes, but it is soulful and transcends time! It also speaks volumes about our relationship and how we strive to stay partners in love and through life!

I am truly thankful to God that I have been blessed to have such a wonderful, supportive husband and friend! Love you, Daniel!

Loving this ATL Venue- Studio Clout

Don't let the door below fool you...behind it you'll find a 6,700 square foot two story loft that would be perfect for a not-so traditional wedding and reception!

If you are ever in the Castleberry Hill Historic District (CHHD) of Atlanta you will find an eclectic and artistic vibe as well as an array of shops, eateries, galleries and yes, loft spaces! Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting Studio Clout, a unique loft and gallery! Studio Clout exhibits the skilled artworks and pieces of artists from all over the globe! It is nestled in the heart of CHHD and is within walking distance of the Georgia Dome, Phillips Arena, CNN and the Georgia Aquarium!

This historic loft exudes an ambiance that is chic, stylish and hip! When I arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find that the space is divided into two galleries- lower and main! The lower gallery provides a clean, rich design that has exposed metal beams, hardwood floors, exposed brick, warm lighting and comfortable leather seating...great for a cocktail hour and lounge!

The second floor main gallery is my personal fave! It offers a white ceiling and white brick walls. The high gloss creamy floor presents a very elegant setting that is ideal for your wedding!

Another fave feature is the exhibited artwork and pieces throughout! These masterfully created pieces of art will serve as a striking accent to your celebration! In addition, there is a rooftop terrace right off of the main gallery which showcases an urban backdrop and view of the Atlanta skyline!

Wish Upon a Wedding Launches in Atlanta!

Wish Upon a Wedding is the world’s first nonprofit wish granting organization providing weddings and vow renewals for couples facing terminal illness and serious life-altering circumstances regardless of sexual orientation. The organization offers couples a chance to enjoy a very special day, without any thoughts of existing health or other serious issues, while surrounded by their closest family and friends.

By celebrating the courage & spirit of these couples, Wish Upon a Wedding helps create lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come. Here's a great example of the wonderful work this organization has done since its inception:

The mall tour event will begin at 12 noon with a one-hour reception sponsored by SoBe. From 1pm - 2 pm, our WE tv Wedding Expert, Diann Valentine will be on-hand to provide entertaining tips as well as showcase fabulous and affordable invitation ideas from the Diann Valentine Invitation Collection!

Venue Spotlight: Agnes Scott College

Last fall, I read an article in Southern Living Magazine and simply fell in love with the beautifully Frank Lloyd Wright- inspired Julia Thompson Smith Chapel located on the campus of Agnes Scott College (ASC)! My initial thoughts were...what a stunningly quaint place to have a wedding! Since my initial post, my team and I have had the pleasure of touring the chapel and campus as well as event facilities.

Amazingly, Agnes Scott College campus sits on 100 acres shaded with some of Georgia’s oldest trees. Located in Decatur, ASC is just six miles from the center of Atlanta! It's Gothic architecture and meticulously landscaped grounds are beautiful backdrops for capturing engagement photos as well as wedding day memories!

During our visit, we had the opportunity to experience the grand "feel" of Evans Dining Hall (pictured below). Evans Dining Hall is a fabulous event facility to host a reception, special occasion or corporate function! The main area resembles a mall food court with more striking Gothic architecture!

One of my personal fave places on campus is the Anna I. Young Alumnae House....gorgeous, gorgeous! It is an historic home that was recently renovated and is expected to be the first LEED-certified building (national rating system for “green buildings") in Decatur! The house has beautifully decorated event spaces including a tearoom and dining room, which would be wonderful for a bridal luncheon or shower!

Overall, Agnes Scott College offers an array of event facilities and meeting space choices as well as on-site catering options that can be fully customized to meet your event requirements! It's by far one of my fave places to host a wedding!

Mocktail of the Month: Pineapple Mockjito

It's been pretty hot in Georgia...SIZZLING is the word that actually comes to mind! We thought it would be great to share this cool and wonderfully refreshing Pineapple Mockjito! The recipe below will yield just one...so do something extra special for yourself! Here's what you'll need:

Ingredients:

5 fresh mint leaves

Half a lime

2 tablespoons crushed pineapple

1 tablespoon sugar

Cubed ice 8 ounces soda water (such as San Pellegrino)

1 fresh pineapple spear or wheel, for garnish

Directions:

Put mint into a short highball glass.

Squeeze lime over mint.

Add crushed pineapple.

Add sugar and muddle ingredients until mint has been torn several times.

Add soda water and stir until sugar dissolves.

Add ice and garnish with pineapple.

Enjoy!

Our "Lucky in Love" Tablescape is the Winner!

Our "Lucky in Love" tablescape was Get Married's "A Vegas Affair" design challenge winner! Beautiful bride-to-be, Michelle was thrilled with our Vintage Vegas design with touches of elegance! It was a daunting task because we had not met with the bride before revealing our design to her and we are sooooo happy that she loved it!

A BIG thank you to everyone who tuned into WE tv, called and e-mailed us, "tweeted" as well as sent messages to our Divine Occasions Facebook Page showing support! We truly appreciate it!

Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta Premiere Party

The Say Yes to the Dress party had a guest list of over 800 and we were fortunate to be in attendance! The evening was filled with celebration for TLC's popular wedding show as well as the country’s largest full-service couture bridal salon, Bridals by Lori! The venue of choice was one of Atlanta's most elegant spaces, 200 Peachtree (be sure and check out our Venue Album for more pics of this great venue) and our gracious host, none other than Brides.com! Gratefully, we saw so many wonderful faces in the Atlanta Wedding Industry and met a few new ones! Here's just a glimpse into the evening...some of my faves! Totally enjoy!

One of the highlights of the evening were these two beautiful wedding cakes created by two of Atlanta's talented cake artisans- SugarPlum Visions as seen below....

and Sweet Sensations! Both couture cakes were inspired by Designer Lazaro Perez's bridal creations!

Overall the evening was simply a delight! Don't forget to watch the Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta Premiere on next Friday, August 6th! Showtime is 9/8c!

Recently, we accepted a design challenge from Get Married for local Atlanta bride, Michelle! We competed against another event designer/planner at the Loews Atlanta Hotel for Michelle's approval and we hope we exceeded her expectations! We were only given the bride's inspiration board, tidbits about her personal style, a few surprises from Get Married and the color palette she selected- hot pink, black and white! We were charged with creating a classic yet elegant, "Vegas Theme" that would incorporate her bridal style and personality! Here's Michelle's inspiration board:

Mocktail of the Month: Watermelon Lemonade

The summer is in full swing and we are ready with this great Watermelon Lemonade mocktail! Be sure and try it for yourself! Here's what you will need:

Ingredients:

1/4 cup (2 ounces) fresh-squeezed lemon juice

1/2 cup (4 ounces) fresh watermelon puree, strained through a coarse strainer to remove seeds

3 tablespoons (1 1/2 ounces) simple syrup*

3/4 cup (6 ounces) cold water

Preparation:
Stir it all together and serve over ice.

Garnish it with a thin watermelon or lemon wedge

For the Spritzy variation: Swap one-third (1/4 cup) or more of the water with seltzer or sparkling water. Enjoy!

The Atlanta 48 Hour Film Project

We had the opportunity to attend The 48 Hour Film Project which was held at The Historic Plaza Theatre- Atlanta's Oldest Continuously Operating Cinema! The 48 Hour Film Project is a contest in which teams of Atlanta filmmakers are assigned a character, a genre, a line of dialogue, and a prop, and have 48 hours to create a short film containing those elements! Love the challenge and the concept! The city winner will receive a trophy; will be screened at Filmapalooza and may have a chance of being screened at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival's Short Film Corner!

The creative works that we viewed were phenomenal! One of our very own Divine Occasions multi-talented team members, Kim Cade participated in one the films! She had a stellar performance in the comedic film, "Make it Funky" which was produced by YLP Productions!

Rock, soul, funk and reggae are a few musical genres that come to mind when you mention the name Lenny Kravitz! He is known throughout the world for his "retro" style and musical talents! But did you know that he has a keen eye for design? I love his former Miami home (below) that was heavily influenced by the early 1970s and incorporated many elements used in event design currently including textured patterns, acrylic chairs (ghost), chandliers and touches of bling! Tons of white, crisp, clean and simply stunning!

In contrast to his former digs, Kravitz's latest endeavor with fresh and funky New Orleans based Flavor Paper, he offers his own line of wallcoverings! The collection is called Tropicalismo and was inspired by time he spent in Brazil! In the words of Kravitz it's "rhythmic and sexy"! I adore the bold patterns and vibrant colors combinations! The Tropicalismo Collection definitely offers a break from the "norm" and awakens many possibilities for event design! Enjoy!

Mocktail of the Month: Apricot Gingerini

To kick of the summer, I found this great sunny mocktail- an Apricot Gingerini (love the name)! Here's what you will need:

Ingredients:
2 1/2 oz white grape juice
3 oz apricot nectar
1 oz ginger-infused simple syrup
1/4 tsp ground clove

Preparation:
Pour grape juice, apricot nectar, ginger-infused simple syrup [find a recipe for vanilla-ginger simple syrup here and skip the vanilla], and most of the ground clove into a mixing glass fill with ice.
Shake vigorously, then strain into a martini glass.
Garnish with the remaining ground clove atop!

Divine Find: Abbott Farms

Whoa! It is hard to believe that May has flown by so fast! For me, this month has been filled with family, friends and fun planning! All of which I have enjoyed! One celebration that has been truly memorable was seeing my little sister, Haly graduate from Limestone College (so proud of her)! Limestone is located in Gaffney, SC which where I made a super great find, Abbott Farms!

Abbott Farms started as a tiny peach stand and has blossomed to landmark fruit markets along I-85 and I-26 in South Carolina! Southern delights are definitely their speciality from the peach cider and salsa to homemade strawberry ice cream (my fave) and by far some super sweet peaches! It's a great place to find that extra special something for Summer welcome gifts for your guests or simply treating yourself to a sweet taste of the south! Be sure and visit Abbott Farms if your ever going up 85 North! Enjoy the day!

Mocktail of the Month: Apple Glow

The Apple Glow mocktail is perfect for Spring and it guarantees you'll feel a special burst of energy! Here's what you'll need:

Ingredients:
4 oz. chilled organic apple juice

4 oz. white organic grape juice

1/2 honeydew melon, remove seeds and rind

Apple slice, garnish

Preparation:
In a blender combine your apple juice, grape juice and honey dew.

Blend 1 minute or until honeydew and juices are smooth.

Pour into a chilled martini glass.

Garnish with an apple slice.

Enjoy!

Earth Day was established to inspire awareness and appreciation for this very place that we call home! As the years progress, I have become more aware of how I as well as my company can make a more positive impact in our own greener efforts! It is always a delight to me to find so many wonderful ways to incorporate more sustainable options when planning any divine occasion! I have found some great sustainable products to go and be greener on your wedding day and beyond! As always, Etsy is a great source for wonderful handcrafted items by some great artisans! First up is Conscious Clothing which specializing in soy, hemp, bamboo, organic cotton as well as wool and recycled fibers! From their wedding collection, Bamboo Flutter Gown (featured above) and the Ola Wedding Gown (featured below) were both made from Bamboo and would be excellent options for a summer wedding!

Moreover, we found that many couples are opting for a more natural alternative than diamonds or metals when saying I Do! Our next sustainable find comes from MnM Woodworks ! MnM offers custom made wooden rings and wedding bands that are a great natural alternative! But if you can't resist the "bling" of a diamond, please be sure that it is conflict free (originated from ethical and environmentally responsible source)!

Lastly, we found this great flower girl wand made from bamboo from the creative minds and hands of Blume Bloom! Love the wand because it is a great alternative to your traditional flower girl basket!

There are many more ways to incorporate sustainable options into your wedding day...as we find more...we definitely will share our divine finds! Remember, celebrate the environment and Happy Earth Day everyone!

Fresh Bridal Experience Highlights: Part II

As promised, here's our follow-up post from our Fresh Bridal Experience! Our team so enjoyed meeting some of Atlanta's sweetest Brides (and grooms)! The afternoon was filled with great food, live music, bridal fashion and much more! Here are some additional faves moments:

Awesome musical talent, Kurt Scobie was by the pool and simply WoWed everyone! Kurt can compose original music for your wedding day...adding a personal and special touch! His smooth hypnotic sounds will sure to be a crowd pleaser! Our personal fave is "Waves of You"!

This photo is definitely one of my faves captured by Anna and Spencer Photography! It was taken infront of one of the fireplaces and would be a great backdrop when taking pre-wedding bridal photos!

Atlanta's Vintage Inspired Designer, Katriesa Raines of Olive graciously had her custom designs on display for brides as well as select pieces from her new debuted, "Little White Dress" Collection!

More than just a "fresh" breath of air, Yolanda Owens of iwi fresh was on hand to help brides to find a more natural way of caring for themselves for their wedding day and beyond! Her all-natural products bring out the most and best of you! She was simply fab and everyone enjoyed her hand massage treatments!

We are so pleased to have the amazing cinematography team of Jeremy and Suzanne Doublestein from Three Ring Weddings on hand for the afternoon! Their work is in a word...incredible! Thanks to the Three Ring Weddings for sponsoring a fab prize for the afternoon-a BluRay Disc player! Congratulations to the very lucky winner, Fresh Bride, Iya pictured below!

Thanks to the Chef Barbara DiJames and her team at Grace 1720! The food was phenomonal! Brides were able to sample such tasty bites as Pulled Pork Tostada w/Cilantro Jalapeno Mayo and Fresh Salsa as well as Chicken and Dried Cherry Wonton Cups w/Poblano Peppers (both great for the pre-reception hour)!

Mocktail of the Month: Berry Mimosa

Ingredients
1/2 cup cranberry juice
1 cup raspberry flavored ginger ale
1 strawberry, top removed, sliced in half
Sprig of mint

Cooking Instructions
Combine juice and ginger ale in a small pitcher; pour into champagne glasses.
Garnish with strawberry slice and mint sprig.

Substitution(s)
Trade the ginger ale for a raspberry-flavored sparkling water or berry-flavored sparkling lemonade.

The Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to granting last wishes for men and women suffering from Stage 4 (metastatic) breast cancer, has received thousands of wedding gowns for its "Brides Against Breast Cancer" Nationwide Tour of Gowns. On January 28, 29 and 30, the Tour will return to Atlanta with a truckload of grand and beautiful bridal gowns from well-known sources in sizes ranging from 2 to 44! Wisdom Wednesday: Clearing the Clutter!

First and foremost, congratulations to all the newly engaged couples! As you're just beaming with excitement and envisioning your BIG day... start releasing the old and preparing for the new!

The first week or so (from my past experience) is normally filled with resolutions to accomplish many things in a given year! For many brides and grooms alike, clearing out the clutter (getting organized) is at the top of the list along with losing weight (been there and doing that)!

Here are a few tips to help you as you prepare to become one with your significant other:

1) Set aside a few hours each week devoted to freeing yourself of the clutter!

2) Devise a system for things you want to keep, trash, donate, recycle, gift, repair, sell, etc.

3) If you are a paper junkie (love to keep everything from college notebooks to newspaper clippings) and are afraid to discard anything....consider the 80/20 rule! Per Ciji Ware, this rule generally works! Safely let go of 80 percent of the paper and keep 20 percent! If you make a mistake...more than likely you should be able to retrieve many account specific items information online!

As you begin to purge away the old to prepare for your new life you will discover your choices may broaden and future tasks will be more manageable!

****Personal fave tip for brides-to-be***: As you begin to attend bridal shows and search wedding magazines for Wedding Day inspiration...invest in a Wedding Day Binder! If you find an idea that you would love to incorporate into your Wedding Day...simply remove the page and add it to your binder! Recycle what you will not use to keep your clutter at bay and help you stay organized! When you go to visit us your wedding planner or your cake artisan, stationer, photographer, etc. you will be able to give them a visual picture of what you have in mind! This little tidbit will prove to be quite helpful in the creative process!

Again, congrats and remember a few minutes a day will definitely keep the clutter away!

A Good Cause: Johanna & Todd's Dream Wedding

Recently, our team had the opportunity to give a wonderful gift like no other...a wedding for a wonderful couple! Because of the generosity of Roger Kahn of 550 Trackside in downtown Lawrencville, Georgia, Johanna Ankermiller and Todd Stickland had their dream wedding. Mr. Kahn contacted us few months ago about a bride and her mom, Mrs. Stella Kirven he had met with. Johanna had to postpone her wedding 3 times due to her battle with breast cancer. As a result of extensive treatments, finances were "tight" from mounting medical bills and Johanna never thought she and her soul mate, Todd would ever be able to have their wedding. Mr. Kahn donated his facility and many other companies donated their time and services to create a wedding day that was so special for her, Todd and their family.

NBC and CBS were on site to document this heartfelt and amazing event along with Simply Wed Magazine. If feels wonderful to have been apart of this unique "dream team" and we just want to take the time to honor everyone who gave as much as possible to help Johanna and Todd realize their dream!

3/4 c. sparkling apple cider, chilled

3/4 c. sparkling cherry-flavored mineral water, chilled

1/2 c. reduced calorie cranberry juice cocktail, chilled

Combine apple cider, mineral water, and cranberry juice cocktail; stir lightly. Pour into 2 champagne glasses. Serve immediately. YIELD: 2 cups (1 cup servings) 55 calories

First and foremost, I wanted to personally say thank you to each of our blog readers! A year ago, no one knew anything about us and a now we've received over 15,000 visits on our blog alone! Small stats for some, but it's a giant leap in the right direction for us! In addition, I am grateful for our readers- who have stretched from the East to the West Coast of the U.S., Canada, South America, the Caribbean, across "the pond" to Europe as well as Africa, Asia, Australia and many countries in between! It has been my pleasure to talk with many of you via e-mail about your wedding day visions and hopes for your future! I look forward to even more wonderful exchanges! Moreover, I am so grateful for every comment, every Tweet, every Facebook family member, friend and fan! Thank you for your support this past year and we look forward to presenting more of fun ideas, Divine finds and Real Weddings/Events from the upcoming seasons!

Divine Inspiration: White House State Dinner

Great wedding and event design inspiration can be drawn from the First State Dinner hosted by the Obama's to honor India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife, Gursharan Kaur.

Table clothes were apple green, flatware was gold, as were the candle sticks, with gold-colored candles; the tables seated ten. Designed by new White House florist Laura Dowling (she was just named the new White House Florist less than a month ago...talk about no pressure), the flowers were purple in honor of India's state bird, the Indian Peacock. The centerpiece bouquets on the dining tables were also meant to be evocative of the classical American garden, and included sweet pea, garden roses, and hydrangea. These were "recycled" throughout the White House the following day (great "green" practice).

Mrs. Obama mixed her china patterns for this evening, and used Eisenhower China and Clinton State China for the service plates, and George W. Bush State China for the dinner plates. The china has meaning: President Eisenhower was the first president to visit India after it gained its independence. And both of the Clintons--Bill and Hillary--have been enormously useful to the Obamas and the administration. Their china is very special: It was created for the 200th anniversary of the White House, and depicts architectural endowments on the building, and has an unusual cream border. And President Bush fostered a close relationship with India, too: He held a State Dinner in Prime Minister Singh's honor in 2005. The Bush China, designed by First Lady Laura Bush, arrived just two weeks before the Bushes left the White House, and was only used once. (Above: Bush State China)

Magnolia branches, nandina, and ivy foliage--sustainably harvested--were woven through the light fixtures and around the walls of the dinner tent! Magnolia is native to India, as well as America. The stemware on the tables repeats the purple color scheme too--but it's rented, according to Deputy Press Secretary Semonti Stephens, as are the linens; in the past, these items were commissioned for White House State Dinners, and never used again. The White House rents equipment for events...just like regular citizens (great factoid to know). The dinner "tent" was rented, too (pretty cost effective)!

Overall, we are in love with the colors chosen and great attention to detail! Also, there's a great wedding story behind the dress worn by Deputy Press Secretary Stephens to the dinner...be sure to click on the link to find out more!

Mocktail of the Month: Warm Cranberry Wassail

Ingredients
1 64-ounce bottle Ocean Spray® Cranberry Juice Cocktail
2 1/2 cups apple juice
1/4 cup sugar, optional
3 3-inch cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon whole allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Orange slices, garnish
Whole cloves, garnish

Directions
Combine all ingredients, except garnishes, in a large saucepan. Heat to boiling, reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Strain punch to remove spices. Place in a heat proof punch bowl. Garnish with orange slices studded with cloves. Yield: 14 6-ounce servings.

Mocktail of the Month: The Fruit Cup

To make simple syrup, combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat until the sugar has melted.

1 orange slice
1 lemon slice
1 lime slice
4 mint leaves
2 cucumber slices
1 blackberry
1 raspberry
1 strawberry
3/4 ounces of simple syrup

Combine all the ingredients in a tall glass.

Mash the fruits and herbs with a long wooden spoon or muddler.

Stir well, fill with ice and garnish as desired! Great for Thanksgiving and the Holidays! Enjoy!

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk- Atlanta

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk here in Atlanta! The walk raised over $1 million dollars for breast cancer research! I walked with Chef Courtney and her team, Courtney's Angels! She formed the team to show support for her friend currently fighting for her life against this disease! I am appreciative that she allowed me to walk with her team! After I finished the 3 mile walk...I called my Aunt Margie and told her that I had walk for her! So grateful she is a survivor! Next time...3 day walk here I come! Here are some fave pics from the walk:

"Feel Good" Friday- Breast Cancer Survival

I have been a bit out of touch with the blogging world but with good reason! I've been helping my Aunt Maragret (more like my second mom) celebrated her one year Breast Cancer Survivor Anniversary! Last October, I sat in on her doctor's appointment and heard the news that devastated us both! Our family had been there before with my Grandmother Rosa Lee and my Aunt Mae! However, never in a million years did we expect this news for her...Breast Cancer! But we know that God is faithful and through many prayers, hundreds of miles in travel, months of medications and treatments (chemotherapy and even emergency spleen surgery)...she is still with us today and we are so grateful! So, we love you Aunt Margie and salute you for your faithful fight for breast cancer survival!

Remember, early detection is key! Please maintain a regular exam schedule and encourage others to do the same! Also, please join Divine Occasions as we support these wonderful organizations currently on the front line to fund finding a cure:

The magazine is the creative collaboration between friends, Eva Chiou of Red Velvet Occasions, and Lucia Dinh and Henny Setiadi of D*LSH Design. Utterly Engaged's goal is to show unique alternatives to creating a high-end look (within budget) for today's bride without sacrificing style! Love it!

The Knot launches Gift Registry 360

Ingenious is the word that comes to mind for a new Web tool for brides to be! The Knot has created Gift Registy 360 (GR 360 for short) that allows brides to establish a single gift registry online, which can be shared with their various friends via the #1 Facebook wedding application, Weddingbook! The Knot has lined up five retail giants: Macy’s, Target, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, and Crate and Barrel!

The idea is to simplify the wedding registry process! A bride to be will be able to use GR 360 and browse through complete product listings for all five participating retailers. Plus a bookmarking feature according to The Knot will let users register for products sold on virtually any website. Then ultimately, each engaged couple will have compiled a single registry for their friends and family to shop via Facebook application, Weddingbook. Look for more info to come as The Knot plans to launch a stand-alone web presence in 2010!

Fall Inspired, Brides' Desire: Floral

Centering your wedding's ceremony and reception around a season of the year is a great way to incorporate that season's color palette! Fall (Autumn) officially arrived for us on September 22nd! Additionally with all the beauty that Autumn brings, I thought it would be great to showcase some beautiful floral designs captured by Geoff White Photographers.

Traditionally, the colors included in an autumn palette are warm and soothing- Golds & mustard, Off whites and warm beiges from light to dark, Reds- orange-red, tomato red, Greens- Olive & Moss, Blues-Turquoise, dark periwinkle blue gold and of course, oranges from light to dark-peach & Salmon orange to pumpkin and terra cotta! The possibilities are endless when creating the ideal Autumn color combinations for your wedding and reception! Also, you may want to include leaves, branches as well as pumpkins in your decor's design to further enhance your ceremony location as well as the reception!

Another color that would further compliment an autumn color palette is purple. Below the photo on the left features hints of purple with rich burnt orange, reds and greens! Also, the rich colors also "pop" with a white backdrop (chairs and alter) as shown with the photo on the right.

Lastly, in recent years pink and brown has been THE color combo for many brides! Below, I love the incorporation of pink hues against these brown bridesmaids dresses!

As you can see centering your dream wedding's floral and decor around the many levels of color that a season's color palette offers will yield astounding results!

Georgia on my Mind: Agnes Scott College's Julia Thompson Smith Chapel

If you haven't already be sure to check out the October Issue of Southern Living Magazine which features Decatur's own Agnes Scott College's Julia Thompson Smith Chapel!

The Julia Thompson Smith Chapel is the first freestanding chapel in the all women's college 120 year history. It is a multi-faith, non-denominational religious space. The sanctuary is approximately 1,100 square feet and has a seating capacity for 112 and welcomes people of all faiths. The college also offers reception hall options as well as on site catering! In my opinion, it is a stunningly beautiful and quaint place to get married and celebrate your reunion!

Mocktail of the Month: Pink Barbie

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and our mocktail of the month is a none other than a Pink Barbie! We encourage both men and women to take preventative steps for avoiding this disease!

For this Pink Barbie you'll need:

1 oz. cranberry
3/4 oz. pineapple juice
3/4 oz. fresh orange juice
3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
Rochester Ginger Drink (In the U.S., Nickleby's Ginger is available)

Directions:
Combine all the ingredients except the Rochester Ginger Drink in a shaker
Shake well and pour into a tall glass of ice
Top with a splash of Rochester Ginger Drink for a cool, refreshing drink!

9 Divine Things About Me

Well, on the last day of the 9th month in 2009 (which just happens to be my birthday- WoooHooo)! I am sharing nine divine things about myself! Here we go:

1) I was born in New York! Yes, the Southern Girl with the BIG smile was born in the Bronx! Although I am a far cry from being Jenny on the BLOCK!

2) I am a numbers freak, one of my fave shows is NUMB3RS! And I was an Accounting major who married an Engineer! Go figure...our children will be wearing pocket protectors along with their diapers!

3) I absolutely love forensic science (problem solving)! My fave shows aside from NUMB3RS just happen to be CSI (the original), CSI Miami, CSI New York, NCIS and now NCIS LA (growing on me but still liking it)! Oh! and Horatio Cane is my man on the side! Love the red hair and those sunglasses...my husband already knows!

4) I absolutely love music! I played the piano when I was younger and could do one mean recital! However, if you don't use your skills you will loose them! Now, I can play one mean "Mary Had a Little Lamb" with only 3 keys! Soooooo sad!

5) I absolutely love the Southwest! I've been blessed to visit Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Oklahoma and California! Love it...love it! I have only Utah and Colorado left to visit and explore!

6) I love museums! My favorite are the Baltimore Museum of Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York! I haven't visited the High Museum yet but plan to do so for my birthday! Can't wait! The Lourve is also on my short list of must sees!

7) In case you haven't guessed it, I love the words: love, absolutely, wonderful, super, fave, mag (short for magnificent), adore, special, great, splendid, fab (short for fabulous), marvelous and the list of goes on and on! Gotta check the thesaurus for more!

8) I am a super positive thinker! There are positive messages in my car, office, home, etc! I believe in thinking wonderful thoughts about life and people! Sounds dopey...I know but I am a believer of having a positive focus on life, your dreams and desires!

9) I love (there goes that word again) what I do- Wedding and Event Planning! I get such joy out of helping others! I sat behind a desk for several years cranking out spreadsheets, month end reports, journal entries, variance analysis, etc! But I consider myself very blessed and fortunate that God has given me a chance to share the gift and talents He has given me! For that I am truly thankful!

Recently, we had the opportunity to participate in the "A Day in the Mountains" Bridal Show held at R Ranch in the Mountains Resort located in Dahlonega, GA (approximately 70 miles from Atlanta)! The property itself is a stunning 1,027 acres of rolling meadows and scenic views of the North Georgia mountains! R-Ranch in the Mountains Resort is surrounded by Chattahoochee National Forest and is a wonderful location for any nature lover who appreciates the splendor of the great outdoors! R-Ranch in the Mountains Resort’s lodge is truly an amazing venue for any special event and would be the perfect backdrop for your wedding as well as corporate and social celebrations! "Feel Good" Friday- Couple reunited 50 years later

This has to be one of the sweetest stories! Joan (Hay) Stone, 68, of rural Waverly, KS and George Stewart, 78, Lawrence, KS both attended Latimer School, a one-room school house east of Ottawa, Kansas. They both married and had families, careers and were active in their communities.

Joan's life path lead her to Bob Stone, they married and moved to Stone Mountain, GA. She spent years in broadcast media and later turned her home into an eco-friendly farm. She later returned home to Kansas with her husband, whose life was shorten do to illness. George Stewart's life path lead him to marry Donna Cartmill. They had four children and he enjoyed a long career at the University of Kansas. Stewart's wife later passed away from Parkinson's Disease.

After a reunion gathering they started keeping in touch via e-mail and helped each other through the grieving process online. After months of online communicating, counseling and catching up with each other fate took over! Although their life paths to each other have been unconventional, neither would choose a detour. After not seeing each other for about 50 years and sharing nearly a combined 100 years of marriage with their late spouses, they plan to wed in November! Mocktail of the Month: Mock-jito

Whoa! Can you believe it? It's September already...WoW! The summer is almost over and it's just about time for my favorite season of the year, Fall! But before we totally say, "Ta Ta!" to the summer let's partake in a great Mock-jito, a non-alcoholic twist to the traditional Cuban cocktail, the Mojito! Here's the recipe:

Ingredients

At least 10 mint leaves

1 – 2 teaspoons of sugar

Juice of 1 lime and lime quarters (to garnish)

Ice – cracked (pound ice cubes in a clean tea towel until you get 2 handfuls of ice chunks)

Soda water OR ginger beer (really!)

Highball Glass

Method

Add mint leaves and sugar to the glass then ‘bruise’ the leaves with a wooden spoon (don’t break them up!). This is known as “muddling” and releases the mint oils. Then add the lime juice. Stir carefully and make sure the sugar dissolves (caster sugar will dissolve more easily than granulated). Put the mix in the fridge to ‘chill’ for a few minutes. Then add your handfuls of ice. Add the soda or ginger beer. Stir, then garnish with lime quarters and mint leaves.

Enjoy this great Mock-jito and the rest of the Summer!

GAP Premium Denim Launch Party

A great way to spend a Sunday evening is by sharing it with good friends! We couldn't think of a better friend than Chef Courtney nor a better place than the GAP Premium Denim Launch Party held at Lenox Square! This party was thrown to celebrate the retailer’s renewed commitment to denim via their 40th anniversary 1969 line of jeans! It was a great event and we enjoyed a fashion show, haute soundtracks by DJ Camille and edibles by Chef Courtney! Here are few fave pics from the evening:

550 Trackside Bridal Showcase Highlights

We had the opportunity to participate in the first bridal showcase hosted at 550 Trackside! It was great to meet an array of wonderful brides who exploded with excitement for their upcoming weddings while embracing the charm of this unique venue! We were excited to present our Vintage Ole' Georgia tablescape with a touch of Glam and Bling! It was a huge hit!

Our colors were Red and Black with a touch of BLING!

We just heard the great news that a winner for the Bliss Bridal Shoe and Wedding Unveiled Magazine's Designer shoe Giveaway is C. Carbott! The unanimous decision was reached after reading her sentimental entry which also appeals to me because of the endearing relation I had with my grandmother! It's definite must read:

"My favorite pair of shoes were actually not even mine, they belonged to my grandmother. She would come visit every summer and her Sunday shoes were a pair of two-tone, toe-dipped sling-back Chanel pumps in black and beige. The second she would arrive I would beg to put them on and she would tell me "These were designed by a woman who wanted to make a statement, when you wear these shoes you make a statement. Your shoes are a reflection of who you are and they help you walk with a purpose." After that she would let me wear them and I would clobber around the house in them until I fell asleep. Those shoes made me feel grown up and important and while i had them on I embodied every quality that I loved about my grandmother- the sassy, Northern, no time for nonsense woman that I strived to be as a little girl.

My grandmother has since passed and her now vintage Chanel shoes still sit in my closet, still two sizes too big for my feet. Even though she will not be able to be at my wedding, when I put on my wedding shoes, I know she will be there in spirit giving me the sass and confidence to strut down the aisle and to make a statement as I begin my new life with my future husband and best friend."
